How to create new habits

As a life coach and business coach I often help people create new habits so they can improve their results. Habits actually give your brain a rest as you kick into a habit that is already embedded. This keeps your brain from thinking so much or having to make decisions. Their is tons of research on this. For now all you need to know it you can change your habits. You can instill new and positive habits that will help you to achieve your goals.

Here are 3 simple steps to create new habits for greater results. They are cue, routine, and reward.

  1. First let’s talk about cue. A cue is simply something you put into your environment that reminds you to start the routine. One that has worked for me is putting my exercise clothes on the floor next to my bed before I go to sleep at night. This cues me first thing in the morning to exercise.
  2. Second is routine. This is easy enough to do. Your routine is simply how you do a specific task or action. This may very easily be helped by writing down the steps needed to be completed. A great example would be the different types of weight lifting exercises you are going to do and the order you are going to do them.
  3. Last, but certainly not least, is the reward. Rewards come in all sorts of things. It could be the great endorphin rush you feel after working out. It could be a long hot bath. It could be… anything that is healthy, positive and uplifting.Good luck on your journey!

Testimonials

  • “He is a man of many talents!”
“I recently met Louie Sharp of Sharp Skills. He is a man of many talents! But the inspiration he gave me was the thrill of trying new business ideas, never giving up and staying positive at all times. The recent years have been tough on Americans but when you stay positive, never
give up, and try new ideas days are exciting and business grows.”

  • Louie spoke at Lake Zurich High School for an 88 minute live presentation. He brought a car in and demonstrated general maintenance/safety items (ie: tire changing, jumper cables, fluid top offs…etc). The school did it as an in-school field trip. “Hi Louie and Steve, Just wanted to say thank you again for coming this morning to talk to my classes! To be honest I had no idea you spoke about so many different topics and could bring so much information and diversity to the experience, I really appreciated it. I know it took some of the kids by surprise too, but I think that made it even more effective. I can’t wait to hear their reactions tomorrow, I’ve never seen them shake hands with the guest speaker before so I know you impacted some (if not all) on some level!! I’d love for you both to return next semester if you are willing and able. I’ll only have one class so it will be easier to get them under the hood more and have an open conversation.”
